Child Custody Evaluations
When adults undergo divorce proceedings, children are often caught in the middle. Both parents may love their children very much but cannot agree on how to divide the children’s time between the two homes. Professionals who are trained to work with both adults and children may become involved to evaluate the children’s needs and make recommendations for the parents and courts to use in determining what is in “the best interests of the child.”
Child custody cases may become particularly complicated for a variety of reasons:
- when families are in high conflict
- when domestic violence or child abuse has been alleged
- when one or both parents wish to relocate
- when one or both parents is alleged to be alienating the child from the other parent
- when one or both parents’ are openly homosexual/bisexual
